I've been using wood pellet stove for four years. This year the winter is colder than usual and I started running low. I've used maybe four different brands and the latest was eco-blazers which is on the dusty side but burns good with little ash. After running low I bought eight bags of pellets from the local farm & tractor which is supplied by Cheat River. Dust is lower, but wow, the ash buildup is very heavy. It's like watching moon rocks grow. Worst ever! It even smells funny in the bag. Don't buy this crap. (Harman P62A)

So disappointed. ..purchased these pellets because they were made in West Virginia. Usually cleaned the ash out once a month. Now with these pellets, it's once a week. Hardly any heat..and lots of ash...

After ready these comments I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I usually grab any bag off the shelf at Lowe's or Home Depot and never had any issues with any brand of pellets. I heat 1500 ft. These pellets worked as well as any.

I bought two tons of Cheat River pellets at Lowe's after trying a bag of each brand they carry. I burn Cheat River is a Castle Serenity stove. The stove is designed to comfortably heat a room, but mine heats my 1,800 s.f. ranch home using one bag per day. I have found the Cheat River pellets' best feature is they are very clean burning. I clean and vacuum my stove once a day, and the burn pot has no ash build-up at all. The pellets seem to burn evenly, and produce a nice flame, which my wife and I enjoy watching. These pellets seem to produce less heat than other brands I have tried. But I will stick with them until I find another brand that burns just as clean and produces more heat. I wish pellet manufacturers were required to show the BTU output of their products, as well as the various species of wood used. My favorite pellet brand so far has been American Wood Fibers softwood pellets. They burn hot and fairly clean. I used to be able to get them at our local Farm and Family store, but they now offer pellets under their own brand name.

Worst pellet ever ! Burning pellet for 6 years and never experienced this much ash and lack of heat ! I normally clean once a month but with cheat river pellet its once a week. Wish i could light a bonfire and get rid of them all in one night. Never again !

At the start of the cold season I tried a few bags of cheat river pellets and they worked great. We bought two pallets to make sure we had enough for the winter. We are about 1/4 thru the first pallet and we are not so happy with the pellets now. There is a lot of ash build up that requires us to turn the stove off about every other day. In the winter that is to often to have the stove turned off to cool down and clean because of inferior pellets. The worst problem with these pellets is that many of the pellets are no cut properly and are to long to feed thru the auger properly. This plugs up the auger and the pellet stove shuts down and it needs to be unclogged before we can use it again. Very dissapointed with the pellets and will not be buying this brand again.

Question: I'm looking for wood pellets that do not have an accellerant-does anyone know if cheat river pellets at lowes have it? I'm not using for a stove, but for rabbit litter pans...I know, sounds wacky.... :) I'm just wanting to be sure they do not have any fuel like chemical on them, and I'm very new to understanding wood pellets... Thank you for your help!

I have a P43 Harman stove and have been burning Greene Pellets and ran out of pellets. Bought Cheat River pellets at Lowes. Cheat River pellets have a greater mass of ash and a smell on the bags stink. I have burned four tons of Green pellets and after trying Cheat River I'm going back.
