These are CRAP. Got 3 tons beginning of season, loads of ash and clinkers. The dealer {Basin Coop} replaced what I had left a month ago. Still clinkers but heat output is terrible. I usually go through about 25-30# at this time of year with my Quadrafire CB1200 but I's using almost a bag a day. On a whim I weighed 2 of the bags on my bathroom scale. 36#. That's 10% light. My 2 neighbors using them are having the same problems. When did these pellets get certified as super premium? Coop has a better pellet from South Dakota that is CERTIFIED premium for $50 more/ton.

Worst pellets I have encountered. With the issues these pellets have created, ashiness is the least of my problems. Three times a day my pellet stove stops burning because theres a crusty, melted sand like puck blocking the air flow. The fire went out in the night, only for me to find a fire pot filled to the brim with a melted, sandy ash puck. One time I there was a weird blue burned color to one of the pucks I pulled out.

We have used rocky mountain pellets for 9 years. Winter 2017-18 will be our last using them. They were excellent in the beginning, but quality has taken a total nosedive. We get huge clunkers at least twice a day and the stove is constantly ashy. We really like supporting Colorado products, but this company has lost our business.

Update to review on Dec. 31, 2017:

We've burned another 20 bags of this brand from Murdoch's in Parker, CO since the earlier review, and they have been much better than the 20 from late last year. They are not yet as good as last January's bags, but they are now burning clean with needing cleaning every 3 bags instead of every bag. They are igniting as expected, and maintaining temperature as desired. We will try more with more updates.

I have QuadraFire Mt Vernons at 2 locations. I have been heating with pellets more than 20 years. This years Rocky Mountain pellets are the worst pellets I have ever used. So much ash in them that I cannot burn more than 1/2 bag before they stop the stove from re-lighting .I am told that, after the Kremling fire at the plant, the owners purchased pellets elsewhere and packaged them in their bags knowing they were substandard. The "Best money can buy" packaging appears to be something the company knows to be false. Even if this is not the case, these pellets are so bad that no one should ever buy this brand again. They should have a warning on the bag about the excessive ash instead on a proclamation that they are the best. Ask the manager at your retailer if there have been complaints. If I can't find pellets better than this, the stoves go to the landfill and I'll be heat with gas.

I have been a rocky mountain pellet fan for the past few years, having great results in the product. However, the last two tons of pellets I obtained from Murdoch's in Montrose, CO have been absolutely awful! The ash is unclean, clumpy, and does not fall into the ash pan like the others did. I called the Montrose Murdochs and talked with the store manager concerning my disgust and unhappiness that has all of a sudden occurred. I was told that the family in Kremmling, Co that first started the pellets recently sold out to another pellet company, Heaters. I was also told that the formula for making the pellets was changed and that probably was the reason the pellets were not performing like before. This is just terrible because I have decided to stop purchasing Rocky Mountain Pellets in the future. I was going to return them all to the store, except I live far away from the store and it would be an inconvenience to return them. Your product is no longer good......should have left things the way the were...

I have a Brickwell pellet stove. I use super premium wood pellets. When I started using them I was very pleased with them. In the last 2 years the quality has dropped and there is a lot of fines as well as water is getting in the bags at the distributor. The ash is a lot more and heavier than it used to be.

I have a Winslow PS40. I've normally had good luck with Rocky Mountain pellets. I have to agree with the other comments. This season they are terrible. The bags contain a good deal of dust and misshapen pellets. I keep my stove very clean and in good working order. Every off-season I replace all of the seals and gaskets. Twice during the season I clean the flues and chimney. All of the blowers are working normally and the flame appears normal. Yet, every morning I find the glass black, the flame somewhat lazy and the burn pot is filled with a gray, sand-textured clinker. I still have a couple of tons of the pellets left. I'm going to be extremely irritated if I have to do this every day for the next 100 bags.
